Saltash Police Engages with Students and Local Officials on Safety and Awareness
In a proactive step towards community engagement and safety, the Saltash Neighbourhood Team recently visited Saltash.net School to conduct an informative session for Year 9 and Year 10 students. The focus of this hour-long presentation was on critical issues such as offensive weapons, knives, controlled drugs, and the complexities of County Lines.
The team reported a positive reception from the students, who showed collective engagement and attentiveness. The session aimed to raise awareness about the legal consequences of possessing such items, their potential impact on the students’ futures, and the broader societal implications. A key part of the discussion centred on County Lines, highlighting how individuals involved are often victims of modern-day slavery. The police also outlined the support they can provide in these situations.
Continuing their community outreach, the Neighbourhood Team later attended a meeting at Saltash Guildhall. This gathering served as an opportunity to introduce the new Neighbourhood Officers to the Mayor, the Deputy Mayor, and two Cornwall Councillors. The meeting was a platform to discuss maintaining the relationships built over the past year, addressing shared challenges, and exploring effective collaboration strategies moving forward.
In a further effort to engage with the community, representatives from the council will join the police at the upcoming “Have Your Say Meeting.” This event, open to the public, is scheduled to take place at the PL12 Community Enterprise from 10:30 to 12:30 hrs on Friday 26/01/2024 . It presents an opportunity for residents to interact directly with their local council and police representatives, discussing issues and suggestions for community improvement.
