Major Funding Boost for Youth Services in Saltash: £59,069 Awarded to Local Organisations
Saltash Town Council has allocated a substantial £59,069 to support youth services in the town for the financial year 2024-25. This funding, split between two prominent local organisations, Livewire and The Core, aims to address the increasing need for detached professional youth work in the area.
Key Recipients of the Funding
Following a competitive tendering process, Livewire and The Core have each been awarded £29,534.50. This funding will enable both organisations to enhance their youth work initiatives, specifically focusing on detached youth work sessions. These sessions are designed to identify and support young people who are not currently engaged with formal youth services, providing assistance in less structured environments.
The funding arrangement includes a requirement for both organisations to submit quarterly reports to the Saltash Town Council Policy and Finance Committee. These reports will detail expenditure and outcomes related to the essential work being carried out.
Statements from the Beneficiaries
Councillor Julia Peggs, Chairman of Saltash Town Council, expressed her satisfaction with the funding allocation. “I have seen the amazing work that both organisations deliver in the town and thank them for the service they provide. I am delighted that the Town Council can continue to support them and the young people in Saltash,” Julia said.
Charlotte Carpenter, Youth Work Coordinator and Centre Manager at The Core, conveyed her gratitude, stating, “The Core would like to say a big thank you for the generous donation from Saltash Town Council, which is enabling us to continue to offer young people with a safe space to meet, take part in activities and access professional youth workers.”
Andy Rance, Youth Work Coordinator for the Livewire Youth Music Project, echoed this sentiment, adding, “Livewire is delighted and extremely grateful for the funding from Saltash Town Council to support our work with local young people.”
Looking Ahead
The services provided by The Core and Livewire Youth Project are set to include a total of 30 detached youth work sessions. Both organisations will also participate in the Saltash Team for Youth, a collaborative effort to enhance support for the town’s young people.
The quarterly funding release structure ensures ongoing accountability and transparency, with both organisations required to detail how the funds are being used and the impact on the community.
This substantial financial support from Saltash Town Council highlights the importance placed on youth services and the proactive steps being taken to ensure young people in Saltash have access to essential support and opportunities.
