How Barratt Homes’ £3,000 Christmas Donation is Transforming Lives in Saltash
Support for Saltash Foodbank
Saltash Foodbank has received a £3,000 boost from local homebuilder Barratt David Wilson Homes Exeter, providing critical support for families and individuals in need as Christmas approaches. The foodbank, part of the Trussell Trust Network, operates from Belle Vue Road and is run entirely by unpaid volunteers.
In addition to distributing essential food supplies, the foodbank extends its help to include pet food, toiletries, and guidance to other services, forming a lifeline for those facing financial struggles.
Record Donations, Rising Demand
Over the past year, Saltash Foodbank received more than 36 tonnes of supplies from supermarkets, churches, and generous individuals. However, with rising demand in the lead-up to Christmas, the £3,000 donation from Barratt David Wilson Homes is arriving at a critical time.
The funds will be used to:
- Keep the foodbank’s premises operational year-round
- Purchase additional food to supplement dwindling donations
- Enhance digital infrastructure for virtual signposting services
- Provide energy and phone top-ups for those in crisis
- Supply warm clothing and other essentials
- Produce resources for clients in need
Richard Margetts, Chairperson of Saltash Foodbank, highlighted the importance of the support: “When people are living on the edge, it doesn’t take much to tip them into crisis. This donation couldn’t have come at a better time. It means we can continue to offer emergency support to families who are struggling, especially as the demand for our services surges in the lead-up to Christmas. The contribution from Barratt David Wilson Homes is a great help for many in our community.”
A Community Effort
The foodbank’s ongoing work is supported by the local community, and this donation forms part of Barratt David Wilson Homes’ Community Fund scheme. Joanna Towns, Marketing Manager at Barratt David Wilson Homes Exeter, said: “Saltash Foodbank plays a crucial role in helping vulnerable families navigate difficult times. We’re honoured to support them through our Community Fund scheme, especially during the festive season when the need is greatest. This is a chance for us to give back and make a meaningful difference for families near our developments.”
