The Oaklands Community Centre has launched a vibrant new gardening group that convenes every Thursday, providing a perfect opportunity for locals to contribute to beautifying their community while enjoying the great outdoors.

A Green Thursday Initiative

Thanks to the enthusiastic efforts of community members Norman and Shane, the Thursday morning Community Garden Group has successfully kicked off. The group meets at the Oaklands Community Centre from 10 am to 12 pm, aiming to foster a shared space where gardening enthusiasts and novices alike can come together.

What’s on the Agenda?

Today’s session saw members potting on a variety of herbs, with plans to significantly expand the garden’s scope. The proposed developments include:

  • Flower Beds: Designed to add colour and vibrancy to the community centre’s grounds.
  • Risen Beds: To ensure ease of access for all gardening activities.
  • Wild Corners: Intended to attract and sustain local wildlife.
  • Veg Plots: Allowing community members to grow their own vegetables and learn more about sustainable living.

Indoor and Outdoor Activities

Whether it’s raining or shining, there is always something to do at the garden group. Activities are available both indoors and outdoors, ensuring that all participants can find something that suits their interests and physical abilities. This inclusive approach guarantees that everyone, regardless of their gardening experience, can get involved and contribute to the community effort.

A Call to Action

If you’re interested in gardening, community building, or just want to spend some time outdoors, the Thursday morning Community Garden Group at Oaklands Community Centre is the place to be. Remember to wear gardening gloves and sturdy shoes if you plan on working outside, and prepare to dig in, get dirty, and have a lot of fun!

This ongoing project not only beautifies the local area but also promotes community spirit, collaboration, and the joys of active living. Don’t miss out on a chance to make a tangible difference in your community while meeting new people and learning more about gardening. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or a curious newcomer, there’s plenty to do, and plenty of room for everyone. Join Norman, Shane, and other community members next Thursday and help bring the Oaklands Community Garden to life!
