Pool Academy hosts 20th Redruth Charity Sports Awards with over 300 guests in attendance

Pool Academy was packed with energy and emotion as it welcomed more than 300 guests for the 20th annual Redruth Charity Sports Awards, celebrating dedication, teamwork, and sporting achievement across the local community.

The event, held at the school on behalf of the Redruth Charity Trust, brought together representatives from 26 sports clubs to recognise individuals and teams who go above and beyond. Over £15,000 worth of essential equipment was handed out to support local athletes and clubs – but for many, the most moving moments came when individuals were recognised for their personal contributions.

Honouring Unsung Heroes

Each club attending the evening awarded a special trophy to one of their own – shining a spotlight on those who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes or achieved something remarkable on the pitch or court.

Two Pool Academy students were among those celebrated. Lowenna, who plays for Duchy Hockey, and Jacob, of Illogan Football Club, were both honoured for their commitment and service – a proud moment for the school and their peers.

Nick Ward, Principal at Pool Academy, said:

“We were honoured to host such an inspiring celebration of sport and community. The evening truly showcased the incredible dedication of local clubs, volunteers, and young people. We are especially proud of Jacob and Lowenna for their recognition, they represent the values we celebrate at Pool Academy every day.”

Sport’s Power to Unite

Guest speaker Perran Moon MP delivered a powerful keynote speech, recognising the huge role sport plays in uniting communities and the vital contributions of local volunteers who help make it all happen.

Students from Pool Academy were involved on the night too – raising funds for their upcoming expedition to Kenya, which aims to combine education, cultural exchange, and community service.

A School That Leads by Example

Pool Academy, which is part of the Athena Learning Trust, continues to focus on values of aspiration, belonging, and respect. According to Ofsted, students feel safe at school and benefit from strong pastoral support and well-planned lessons delivered in calm, focused classrooms.

The Redruth Charity Sports Awards, now in their 20th year, remain a firm fixture in the local calendar – and a reminder of the dedication, heart, and hope found in Cornish sport.
