Successful Oddfellows Half Yearly Meeting Held in Redruth
A well-attended half-yearly meeting of the Plymouth and Truro District Oddfellows took place recently at Oddfellows Hall in Redruth, with representatives from across the district coming together for the event.
Fish and Chips Before the Meeting
The meeting began with a fish and chip lunch, allowing members from various lodges and friendship groups to socialise before the formal proceedings. The meeting itself was chaired by Tina English, who is currently serving as the Provincial Grand Master for Plymouth and Truro.
Reports and Discussions
During the meeting, district officers and committee members provided reports on key matters, including updates from national and regional conferences. Delegates had recently attended conferences in North Wales and Bournemouth, and these were the subject of much discussion. Welfare benefits, member support, and the programme of events for the next six months were also reviewed, with members having been sent a news and events brochure outlining the upcoming activities.
Financial Overview and District Appointments
Peter English, the district secretary, presented a financial report, which included an overview of investments and returns managed by the branch for the benefit of its members. The accounts, along with the district appointments, were approved by those in attendance.
Tea, Coffee, and Cakes to Conclude
The event concluded on a sweet note with tea, coffee, and a wide selection of cakes and biscuits for all who attended.
The Oddfellows, a friendly society founded in 1810, regularly hold meetings in locations including Plymouth, Truro, and Redruth, and always welcome new members of all ages and genders. Find out more about the Oddfellows and their activities here.
