Redruth Flats Slash Energy Bills by £346 a Year with New Solar Upgrade

Social housing scheme teams up with SunGift Solar to fight rising costs

A new solar power system has been installed at Miners Court in Redruth, cutting electricity bills by over £300 a year for 64 homes. The scheme is the result of a partnership between renewable energy firm SunGift Solar and housing provider Coastline Housing.

£346 a Year Saved Per Flat

The self-contained flats, which are part of a social housing development, are now equipped with a solar PV system designed to reduce residents’ reliance on the grid. Each flat is expected to save around £346 annually on electricity costs, a welcome relief for households hit hardest by the rising cost of living.

SunGift has been focusing its work on tackling fuel poverty by supporting lower-income households through renewable energy solutions. The Redruth project is part of a wider push to make homes cheaper to heat while also reducing environmental impact.

41 Tonnes of CO₂ Offset Annually

The solar upgrade isn’t just helping financially. It’s also expected to cut around 41 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year and has improved the energy efficiency ratings of the homes. That means lower emissions and better performance in the long run.

Damien Connery, Commercial Director at SunGift, said:
“This project has been a shining example of how housing associations can smartly and efficiently deploy solar and energy storage at scale as part of a re-roofing project. SunGift Solar and Coastline Housing have worked in perfect partnership to deliver this landmark solar project and with over £1 billion in energy efficiency upgrade funding announced last month for social housing providers we expect projects like this to be emulated across the country.”

Ben Nevitte from Coastline Housing added:
“We’re very proud to have been a part of this project and delighted that the residents of Miners Court will benefit from greener energy and financial savings for years to come. It’s a really positive investment in all senses of the word.”
