Oddfellows Friendship Group Hosts Spirited Afternoon of Puzzles and Prizes in Redruth

The Oddfellows Friendship Group in Redruth turned a regular meeting into a challenging and fun-filled afternoon this May at the Oddfellows Hall, located in Green Lane.

The event, rich with brain-teasing puzzles and quizzes, drew in members eager to test their wits against each other under the watchful eye of Pete, the District Quizmaster.

A Mix of Fun and Competition

Teams were formed as attendees faced a series of questions that ranged from straightforward to remarkably tough. The intellectual battles were complemented with delicious refreshments, and the sounds of nibbling on chocolate biscuits and cakes filled the air as members tackled word games and various puzzles handed out during the break.

More than Just Games

The gathering was not only about fun and games; it also supported charitable causes. A prize raffle was held to raise funds for a cause chosen by the group, aiding members involved in the international ‘Shoebox Appeal’. Notably, the raffle featured an assortment of prizes, including a jigsaw puzzle deemed impossible to solve—which Alan, a retired IT consultant, impressively completed in less than 45 minutes!

Support and Solidarity

The meeting also served as a platform to remind members of the financial aid and care services available through the Oddfellows. Confidential assistance for those in need and discussions on a proposal for dental grants due to scarce NHS options were key topics. This proposal is expected to be reviewed at the national conference, demonstrating the society’s ongoing commitment to the welfare of its members.
