Major Gas Pipe Replacement Set to Begin in Redruth This October: What You Need to Know About Chapel Street and West End
Significant gas pipe replacement works are scheduled to commence on Chapel Street and West End this October, as announced by Redruth Town Council.
The project, led by Wales & West Utilities, aims to upgrade the current gas infrastructure to enhance safety and support future green energy initiatives.
Who is Wales & West Utilities?
Wales & West Utilities is a key player in the gas transportation sector, responsible for maintaining a vast network of pipes that deliver gas to homes and businesses across Wales and the South West of England. With a dedicated team of over 1,300 professionals, the company ensures the safety and reliability of gas supplies for 7.5 million customers. Although they do not sell gas, they invest £2 million weekly in infrastructure improvements and respond promptly to gas emergencies.
Details of the Work
The upcoming project involves an investment of £265,000 to replace 1,326 metres of outdated metal pipes with modern plastic ones. This upgrade is essential for improving the reliability and safety of the local gas supply.
Residents interested in learning more about the project can attend a drop-in session on 30th July at 9:30 am at the Chapel Street Community Centre. This session will provide an opportunity to discuss the planned works and address any concerns.
Why Now?
A recent assessment by Ofgem has identified a gas pipe in the area as high risk, necessitating immediate action. Replacing this pipe is crucial for preventing potential hazards and aligns with broader efforts to achieve net-zero carbon emissions. The new plastic pipes will also prepare the local network for the integration of future green gases.
Impact on Residents
Wales & West Utilities is committed to minimising disruption during the replacement works. However, residents should anticipate road closures or temporary traffic lights in the affected areas. Safe access for residents will be maintained throughout the project.
For those who may experience interruptions in gas supply, support will be available. This includes alternative cooking and heating facilities and assistance with specific access requirements. Their Customer Service Team is ready to take any questions about our work. You can contact them on freephone 0800 912 2999. Alternatively, you can contact them on X, formerly Twitter, @WWUtilities or https://www.facebook.com/wwutilities.
Wales & West Utilities assures the community that these essential upgrades will contribute to a safer, more reliable, and greener future. The company appreciates the patience and understanding of residents during this period.
