Food, Beer and Beats: Sharp’s and Bango Kitchen Take Over Redruth’s Buttermarket
A Night of Unique Flavours and Perfect Pairings
Sharp’s Brewing Company and Bango Kitchen treated food lovers to an unforgettable evening at The Buttermarket in Redruth last Wednesday, 5th February. The venue, dubbed ‘the coolest comeback’ in town, played host to a fusion of Asian-inspired street food, expertly matched beers and ciders, and a soundtrack of funk and soul beats.
At the heart of the event was one of Sharp’s Brewing Co’s renowned Silent Bistro sessions—an interactive tasting experience where guests sampled small plate dishes while being guided through the perfect beer and cider pairings. Music for the night was provided by DJ Atomic Dog, adding to the immersive atmosphere.
An Exclusive Four-Course Feast
For this special takeover, Howard Sellers and Nick Archer, the chefs behind Bango Kitchen and The Shellfish Pig, created an exclusive four-course small plate menu inspired by Asian street food. The menu featured:
- Mylor Scallipop – Thai kaffir lime fish ball with Primrose Herd kushiyaki
- West Country Teriyaki Flat Iron Steak
- Loch Duart Salmon Tartar
- 48-Hour Roast Chicken and Pork Tonkotsu Noodle Broth
To complement the flavours, Sharp’s offered a carefully curated drinks menu, including:
- Offshore Pilsner
- Twin Coast Session Pale Ale
- Chalky’s Bite Belgian Style Pale Ale
- Sea Fury Special Ale
- A unique ‘hoptail’ – The Doom Bar Daiquiri
Nick said, “We had a fantastic evening with our friends at Sharp’s providing a whole evening of flavourful immersions for our shared guests. Our specially-created dishes were greatly received and perfectly paired with Sharp’s beers and ciders.”
The Buttermarket – A Hub for Food and Creativity
Since its reopening in November, The Buttermarket has quickly gained a reputation as a destination for food lovers, offering a space for rising culinary talent to showcase their creations. Bango Kitchen, which has a permanent spot at the venue, is known for its dumplings, ramen, and bao buns, as well as a rotating selection of specials made with local produce.
Sharp’s, the UK’s largest brewer of cask beer in the South West, is no stranger to pushing the boundaries of beer and food pairings. The Rock-based brewery has won over 150 international brewing awards, with its flagship beer, Doom Bar, remaining a favourite nationwide.
Sharp’s Beer Sommelier, Sam Lyne, commented, “We were absolutely thrilled to work with Howard and Nick of Bango Kitchen to bring this dynamic and fun evening to the awesome new Buttermarket venue in Redruth. We are on an ongoing mission at Sharp’s to educate and inspire both chefs and diners about the amazing pairings that can be had with beer and food.”
Missed Out? Try It at Home!
For those who couldn’t attend the event, Sharp’s has created some at-home recipes with beer pairings to recreate the experience. These are available on the Sharp’s Brewing Co website.
