Over 300 Attend Cornwall’s First Baby Show; Follow-Up Event Planned for November

The first Cornwall Baby Show, held at the picturesque Gwel an Mor Resort in Portreath on Sunday, 21st July, was a resounding success, attracting over 300 mums and mums-to-be. Supported by Cornwall’s Rewind Radio and NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly, the event far exceeded expectations, highlighting a significant need for such gatherings in the region.

Pioneering Effort by Rewind Radio Team

This landmark event was the brainchild of three dedicated women from Rewind Radio: Nicola Langridge, Brand Manager, and her team members, 17-year-old Melissa and 21-year-old Caitlin. Their hard work and innovative approach brought together a vibrant community of parents and local businesses, setting a new standard for parental support and community engagement in Cornwall.

Nicola, Melissa, and Caitlin addressed a notable gap in support and resources for new and expecting parents in the area. Their dedication resulted in a well-organised event that provided an invaluable marketplace for attendees.

Marketplace and Health Services

The Baby Show featured free entry and an array of local traders showcasing a variety of baby services and products. Attendees had the opportunity to explore the latest offerings for their little ones, fostering a strong community spirit.

In collaboration with NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly, the event also offered a comprehensive suite of health services. On-site NHS health professionals provided blood pressure checks, weight/BMI assessments, health and vaccination advice, Q-risk scoring, and smoking cessation support. Additionally, the NHS midwifery team offered specialised advice on pregnancy health, childhood immunisations, and whooping cough vaccinations for pregnant individuals between 16 and 32 weeks of pregnancy.

Community Praise and Future Plans

Matt Rajczi from NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly expressed gratitude, stating, “It was a truly exceptional event helping us engage with our pregnant and recently pregnant population on the importance of maternal health and whooping cough vaccinations. We are grateful to the team at Rewind Radio for doing such a terrific job in organising the Baby Show. We hope to be part of these events in the future.”

Nicola Langridge shared her excitement about the event’s success, noting, “We are absolutely thrilled with the turnout for Cornwall’s first Baby Show. The overwhelming response highlights the need for such events in our community. We’re delighted to provide a platform where parents can access health information and discover fantastic local products and services. I am incredibly proud of my team, Melissa and Caitlin, for going above and beyond to make this event a success in such a short period of time—from creation to delivery in just six weeks. The positive feedback from attendees has been incredible, and we are already planning another event for November.”

The organising trio announced plans to host a baby show every four months at different locations across Cornwall, ensuring that new and expecting parents throughout the Duchy can benefit from these valuable resources and community support.

Looking Ahead: November Baby Show

The next Cornwall Baby Show is scheduled for November and promises to build on the success of the inaugural event, offering even more for visitors. With the overwhelming response and positive feedback, it is clear that these events will continue to be a vital resource for the community.

Stay tuned for more details about the upcoming show and the continued efforts to support new and expecting parents in Cornwall.
