Emergency at Portreath Harbour: Coastguard Team Member Finds Collapsed Casualty While Out Walking
Casual outing turns into urgent rescue mission
A member of the H. M. Coastguard Portreath Rescue Team found themselves responding to an emergency during a family walk on Saturday afternoon, 10th May.
At around 2.45pm, while walking in the harbour at Portreath, the team member came across a collapsed casualty. They immediately contacted both the ambulance service and the Coastguard Operations Room at Falmouth.
Full team called in to assist
The rest of the Coastguard team were then tasked to the scene and quickly arrived, bringing with them their vehicle and CERCC (Coastguard Emergency Response Casualty Care) equipment. This allowed the team to provide more advanced monitoring and casualty care until the arrival of the ambulance service.
The team were stood down and returned to station at 3.45pm.
Coastguard shares safety reminder
In a message shared after the call-out, H. M. Coastguard Portreath Rescue Team said:
“We wish the casualty a full and speedy recovery.”
They also reminded the public:
“If you see someone in trouble at the coast, don’t hesitate—dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Stay with the person if it’s safe to do so, and give as much information as possible to the emergency services. Your quick actions can save lives.”
