Cornwall’s Iconic Port Gaverne Pub Gets a Stunning Makeover – See What’s Changed!
The Port Gaverne, a well-loved pub near Port Isaac, has reopened this month with a fresh new look and a change in management. The historic venue, now part of St Austell Brewery’s managed estate, has undergone a full refurbishment to enhance its interiors while maintaining its coastal charm.
A New Era for Port Gaverne
For over a decade, the Port Gaverne operated as part of St Austell Brewery’s leased and tenanted estate. Now, it joins the brewery’s award-winning collection of 46 managed pubs, which includes the Pier House in Charlestown, the Masons Arms in Branscombe, and the Godolphin in Marazion.
Nestled on Cornwall’s north coast, just steps from the picturesque beach that shares its name, the pub is in a prime location. The surrounding area is well-known for its dramatic coastline and links to the TV series Doc Martin.
A Fresh New Look
The Port Gaverne’s transformation includes a full interior refurbishment, refreshing both the bar and restaurant areas, as well as the pub’s 15 rooms—some of which boast spectacular sea views. Inspired by its coastal surroundings, the updated design blends warm browns with cool blues, complemented by natural materials such as rattan and wood.
The pub’s dining space also reopened last week, featuring a revamped menu that celebrates seasonal ingredients and South West suppliers. Dishes include Mena Dhu braised venison shoulder, alongside elevated classics like monkfish and tiger prawn fish pie.
Pilchards Set to Reopen This Spring
Across from the pub, Pilchards, the restaurant offering breathtaking views of the beach cove, is set to reopen this spring with an updated menu. The restaurant will continue to focus on fresh, locally sourced meat and seafood, with an emphasis on coal-grilled fare.
Andrew Turner, Chief Operating Officer at St Austell Brewery, shared his excitement about the pub’s future:
“We are thrilled to welcome the Port Gaverne into our managed estate. The pub has a rich history and a loyal local following, and we look forward to building on its legacy with our award-winning hospitality.
With its unbeatable location, relaxing accommodation and excellent food, we are excited to provide an unforgettable experience for both locals and visitors.”
