Back-to-Back Rescues Keep Port Isaac Lifeboat Crew Busy Last Weekend

Port Isaac RNLI had a busy weekend with two call-outs in just a few days. The crew were first tasked on Friday, 13th September—a date often linked with bad luck—to assist a casualty at Port Gaverne. The area, popular with coasteerers, saw an incident around 3:30pm involving an individual who had sustained a dislocated shoulder while coasteering.

Challenging Rescue at Port Gaverne

Helm Tom Brown led the rescue operation, ensuring the casualty’s shoulder was stabilised before moving them to prevent further injury. The casualty was then brought aboard The Pride of Port Isaac lifeboat and safely transported to the shore. A friend of the casualty was waiting and drove them to Accident and Emergency for further treatment. The RNLI crew have wished the individual a speedy recovery.

Early Morning Yacht Tow Near Boscastle

The second call-out came early on Sunday, 15th September, at 7:10am, when concerns were raised by members of the public about a 24-foot yacht near the mouth of Boscastle harbour. The crew found three people on board, all in good health but in need of assistance. With the tide falling, it was decided that towing the yacht to Port Isaac was the best course of action.

Helm Damien Bolton commended the team’s swift response and expressed the crew’s dedication to ensuring the safety of both locals and visitors on the water. The yacht was towed to Port Isaac and secured to one of the local fishermen’s moorings. The three individuals were then ferried to shore by the lifeboat.

Support and Preparation

Once back at the station, the boat was made ready for the next emergency. The crew extended their thanks to everyone who responded to the call-outs over the weekend.
