Year 6 Pupils Get a Taste of Secondary School at Pool Academy’s Tremendous Thursdays
Pool Academy, part of Athena Learning Trust, is hosting a series of Tremendous Thursday events throughout October to give Year 6 pupils a taste of secondary school life. These sessions, running every Thursday from 4.00pm to 6.00pm, are designed to help children transitioning to secondary school next September by offering a range of engaging activities.
What to Expect at Tremendous Thursdays
The first session on 3rd October gave the primary school attendees the opportunity to explore PE and humanities. The children embarked on a treasure hunt around the school with clues based on History and Geography questions, followed by a chance to play badminton and basketball.
Each Thursday offers a different theme. On 10th October, students will dive into Spanish and English, while the 17th of October will focus on Science and Design Technology. The final session on 24th October will feature Maths and creative subjects.
An Experience Beyond the Classroom
The Tremendous Thursday evenings are designed to provide more than just a glimpse into the lessons at Pool Academy. They also offer Year 6 students a chance to meet peers from other primary schools, fostering early friendships ahead of their move to secondary school.
To enhance the experience, Pool Academy provides a free sit-down meal for all attendees. The meals—featuring options such as curry, mac and cheese, and pizza—allow students to experience the school cafeteria while chatting with teachers and support staff.
Booking is Essential
With limited spaces available for Tremendous Thursdays, booking is required. You can reserve a spot here.
