First English Team to Play in Como

Students from Pool Academy returned to school with memories of an unforgettable summer trip to Milan. The academy, part of the Athena Learning Trust, made history as the first English team to play in the Italian city of Como, receiving a special plaque from the Assistant Mayor.

Training with AC Milan

Each year, students from Pool Academy have the opportunity to visit a top European football club, and this year it was the turn of AC Milan. The group trained on the grounds of the famous club, played in local fixtures, and enjoyed the sunny weather throughout their stay. The highlight of their visit included a tour of the iconic San Siro Stadium and its museum, a must-see for any football fan.

Beyond the Pitch

It wasn’t just about football. Students got to experience Italian culture first-hand, sampling authentic pizza and watching an exhilarating match. Pool Academy’s commitment to broadening students’ horizons through sport is evident, with the trip to Milan providing a blend of physical activity and cultural exploration.

Sporting Excellence at Pool Academy

Back in Cornwall, Pool Academy continues to foster a strong sporting environment. With facilities including a brand new all-weather astro pitch, sports fields, a sports hall, and fitness suite, students have access to a wide range of activities. The school’s girls’ football team regularly competes in regional and national finals, and many students have achieved individual success, representing the South West and even the UK.

Expressions of interest are already open for next year’s football trip, which will see students heading to Valencia in Spain to visit the Valencia CF grounds.

Applications Now Open

Parents considering Pool Academy for their children should note that applications for secondary school places are now open, with a deadline of 31st October. An open evening is scheduled for Thursday 26th September from 4:30pm to 7:00pm, providing an opportunity to explore the facilities and meet staff.

Principal Nick Ward highlighted the importance of sport in education: “We know the value sport adds to every student’s education and offer a wide and varied programme of sporting activity designed to stretch and challenge even the most able. These annual football trips are a real highlight, allowing students to hone their sports skills and develop a sense of adventure.”
