Pool Academy Students Quiz Local MP: Perran Moon Shares Insights with Future Leaders
Pool Academy hosts a thought-provoking Q&A session with Perran Moon MP.
Pool Academy, part of the Athena Learning Trust, welcomed Perran Moon MP this month, offering students a chance to engage with their local representative on a range of pressing issues. The visit marked an opportunity for the newly elected MP for Camborne and Redruth to meet Senior Prefects and share insights into his role in Parliament.
Engaging with Local Leadership
The Q&A session, held in the school’s conference room, allowed Senior Prefects to ask a variety of insightful questions about local and national issues. Perran Moon introduced himself with a brief overview of his responsibilities as an MP, providing students with a glimpse into the challenges and rewards of political life.
Topics raised included funding for education, environmental policies, and how young people can navigate challenges when entering the workforce. Students also enquired about plans to improve local infrastructure and support mental health resources in schools.
Perran encouraged students to stay informed, engage with their communities, and recognise the importance of their voices in shaping the future.
Pool Academy’s Commitment to Student Leadership
Nick Ward, Principal at Pool Academy, praised the visit, saying:
“I am very grateful to Mr Moon for taking the time to visit Pool Academy and meet with our Student Prefects. The session was an inspiring experience for everyone involved and I hope to arrange more opportunities like this that will connect our students with community leaders and enable them to explore the impact they can have on the world around them.”
At Pool Academy, the Senior Prefects and the Student Leadership Team regularly meet to amplify student voices and contribute to school-wide improvements. The school’s values of aspiration, belonging, and respect are central to its ethos, encouraging students to aim high and uphold high standards of conduct.
Recognised for Pastoral Care
The school’s dedication to fostering a supportive environment has been acknowledged by Ofsted inspectors, who noted:
“Pupils feel safe at school and value the strong pastoral support they receive. The morning greeting helps pupils to have a positive start to the day. Pupils learn in quiet and calm classrooms, from a well-planned curriculum.”
