Planning For A New 39-lodge Holiday Park In Newquay

Published On: 8 January 2024Last Updated: 8 January 2024By

Developments are on the horizon for Newquay as an outline planning application for a luxury 39-lodge holiday park has been submitted. The proposed holiday park, located at The Mawes, Lower Tregenna, just three miles west of Newquay, promises to be a tranquil and exclusive destination for holidaymakers.

The project, spearheaded by applicant Thomas Walker, envisions demolishing existing structures on the site and converting an existing house into a reception building and manager’s accommodation. Additionally, plans include the construction of associated infrastructure such as a pumping station, landscaping, improved access, and ample parking.

One distinguishing feature of this project is that it will be a family-owned and managed venture, with the Walker family boasting over 30 years of experience in the tourism sector in Newquay. Their expertise and dedication aim to provide high-quality modern accommodation while preserving the natural beauty and character of the surrounding area.

Situated on the opposite side of the A3059 road from the well-established and popular Newquay Holiday Park run by Parkdean Holidays, the new holiday park’s proposal aligns with the growing demand for tourist accommodations in the region.

Cornwall Council’s prior approval for developing 60 hard-standing lodge bases at the neighbouring Parkdean site in June 2023 has contributed to the optimism surrounding this application. The council found the Parkdean location to be sustainable for further tourist development, emphasising its accessibility and locational advantages.

The proposed holiday park will consist of a limited number of 39 luxury lodge units, emphasising exclusivity and tranquillity. The design intends to seamlessly integrate into the natural landscape, respecting the land’s rolling contours, wooded areas, mature hedges, trees, and the Porth stream that gracefully flows through the site.

The planning application, identified as PA23/09909, is currently under consideration by Cornwall Council’s planning department. A final decision, whether by the planning department or committee, is eagerly awaited by both the applicants and the community of Newquay.
