Heading to Tunes in the Dunes? Police Issue Urgent Travel Safety Warning

Published On: 15 May 2024Last Updated: 15 May 2024By

As excitement builds for this weekend’s Tunes in the Dunes festival, the police are stepping up to ensure everyone’s safety with a stark reminder about the dangers of drink and drug driving.

Proactive Measures in Place

The festival, set to transform Perranporth Beach into a vibrant hub of music and entertainment, will see increased police presence to safeguard attendees and local residents alike. Police Constable Karen Lovell, the Beat Manager for Perranporth, emphasized the commitment to a safe festival environment. “Our officers will be on-site throughout the three-day event, working in collaboration with event organisers and local stakeholders,” she stated.

Safe Travel Advice

The police are urging festival-goers to make travel plans in advance, including appointing a designated sober driver. With patrols planned along key exit routes, the focus is on preventing impaired driving before it starts. “We urge people to make sensible choices in relation to drinking before driving,” PC Karen noted, underlining a zero-tolerance policy for drink and drug driving.

A History of Safety

Despite a clean record of incidents within the festival grounds in previous years, there have been notable arrests related to traffic offences in the surrounding areas. “In previous years, there haven’t been any reported incidents from the event itself, however, there have been a number of traffic offences in surrounding areas detected by officers,” PC Karen added. This underscores the broader risks associated with events of this scale, not just within but around the festival zone.

Your Role in Ensuring Safety

Festival attendees are encouraged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity or antisocial behaviour to the police patrolling the area or to event security. With community cooperation, the aim is to maintain the festival as a safe space for all to enjoy.
