After 20 Years, Perranporth’s Fire Engine Is Replaced – See Its Successor
A Milestone for Perranporth Fire Station
Perranporth Community Fire Station has officially put its new fire engine into service, marking the end of an era for its long-serving predecessor. The transition, which began on Tuesday, was somewhat unusual as the new appliance was immediately deployed to Truro for standby cover before an official handover could take place.
Yesterday, members of the service’s assets team and workshops gathered for a formal handover. To commemorate the occasion, firefighters brought the old and new vehicles together for a final photograph, capturing a moment of change for the station.
A Farewell After Two Decades of Service
The outgoing fire engine has served Perranporth and the surrounding areas for over 20 years. While it will no longer respond to emergencies from Perranporth, it is not being retired just yet. Instead, it will move on to a new role elsewhere in the service.
Meanwhile, the new appliance has already taken up its duties, equipped with 4×4 capability to support the local community and the wider Cornwall area.
The Work Behind the Scenes
A special mention was given to the assets department, which is responsible for procuring and managing the service’s fleet. Unlike buying a car, purchasing a fire engine is a complex process involving numerous specifications, standards, and requirements. A small but dedicated team ensures every detail is meticulously handled to bring new vehicles into service.
Perranporth Community Fire Station has encouraged residents to keep an eye out for the new fire engine on the roads, adding: “It’ll be hard to miss us!”
