Swimmer Rescue at Polurrian Cove

Just after 11am on Sunday, 12th January, Falmouth Coastguard tasked Penlee’s B class Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat, Mollie and Ivor Dent, to respond to reports of a person in the water at Polurrian Cove near Mullion.

Alongside Penlee’s crew, the Lizard Lifeboat and Coastguard Helicopter 924 were also deployed. However, shortly after launching, the lifeboat crews were stood down as the swimmer was reported to be safely in the care of an HM Coastguard team on the shore.

Tide Trouble Near St Michael’s Mount

Less than 24 hours later, the Penlee Lifeboat was called out again. Just after 2pm on Monday, 13th January, the crew were tasked by Falmouth Coastguard to respond to an incident near St Michael’s Mount, where someone had been cut off by the tide.

With Andrew Wood at the helm and a volunteer crew of three, the Mollie and Ivor Dent launched swiftly and made its way across the bay. Despite the team’s rapid response, the individual was already recovered by one of the Mount’s vessels and brought to safety before the lifeboat arrived.

The Penlee crew returned to the station, reset the lifeboat, and prepared for their next call-out.

These back-to-back rescues highlight the constant readiness of the Penlee lifeboat team to respond at a moment’s notice, ensuring safety along Cornwall’s coastline.
