Treneere Sparkles with 10th Anniversary Christmas Lights Switch-On
The Christmas spirit shone brightly in Treneere, Penzance, as families gathered to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the community’s Christmas lights display. The big switch-on took place at 6pm on Sunday, 15th December, bringing joy to residents and visitors alike.
The evening featured carols performed by pupils from Pensans School and a train fairground ride, which proved popular with children. Adding to the festivities, crew members from Penzance Community Fire Station attended, allowing youngsters to try on firefighting kit and explore their fire engine.
Community Leaders Join Festive Fun
The Mayor of Penzance, Stephen Reynolds, and town councillor for Penzance East Ward, Zach Lawlor, were on hand to help illuminate the displays. Their participation added a festive touch to the celebration, which was made possible by the dedicated efforts of Treneere Team Spirit, a local residents’ association.
Debbie Sims, from Treneere Team Spirit, said:
“This is the 10th year that we’ve organised Treneere Christmas Lights, and we do it because we want to bring our community together and have a celebration which is free of charge to everybody. It is organised by the Residents’ Association, Treneere Team Spirit, and we get funding from different organisations, including Penzance Council, who we are very thankful for.”
Grant Helps Make Display Brighter Than Ever
Marking this milestone, Penzance Council awarded Treneere Team Spirit a £1,500 grant to enhance the lights and decorations. The annual display has become a highlight for the close-knit Treneere community, with the funding ensuring the event was bigger and brighter than ever.
Penzance Council supports community groups and charities with grants to benefit residents and the local environment. Details about future funding opportunities can be found online at www.penzance-tc.gov.uk/grants/ or by contacting the council office at 01736 363405 or info@penzance-tc.gov.uk.
Santa Claus Caps Off a Magical Evening
After the lights were switched on, Santa Claus made a special appearance, inviting children into his pop-up grotto inside Jon Dory’s fish and chip shop.
While the grant funding budget for this year has been fully allocated, new applications will be accepted from April 2025 ahead of the 2025/26 financial year.
Treneere’s Christmas lights once again brought the community together, showcasing the power of local spirit and teamwork in Penzance.
