Swimmer Rescued After Getting Into Trouble Off Praa Sands – RNLI Launches Within Minutes
Volunteer Crew from Penlee Respond to Emergency in Rough Seas
Penlee’s All Weather Lifeboat Ivan Ellen was launched at 5:00pm on 2nd April 2025 following a tasking request from Falmouth Coastguard, after a swimmer got into difficulties near Hope Point, close to Praa Sands.
The swimmer, caught out by rough sea conditions and strong tides, was seen waving for help. Porthleven Lifeguards also responded and quickly located the individual, managing to get him onto a rescue board before returning safely to the beach.
Launched in Just 6 Minutes
Under the command of coxswain Patch Harvey, the volunteer crew of Ivan Ellen launched just six minutes after being tasked. The lifeboat crossed the bay at full speed, but was stood down once Coastguards confirmed that the swimmer was safe and well.
This was the second launch in four days for the volunteer crew at Penlee.
