Stranded at Sea: Penlee Lifeboat’s First Rescue of 2025 Near Mousehole
RNLI Lifesavers in Late-Night Rescue Near Mousehole
Penlee Lifeboat Station’s B class Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat Mollie and Ivor Dent responded to its first emergency of 2025 following a distress call from an 18ft fishing vessel near Mousehole.
Emergency Call at 10pm
The lifeboat was tasked by Falmouth Coastguard at 10pm on Thursday, 9th January. The vessel, with one person on board, was left stranded without power. With darkness falling and the wind from the SSE strengthening at force 2-3, the situation demanded immediate action.
Calm Coordination Amid Darkening Conditions
Helm Andrew Wood, alongside a volunteer crew of three, reached the fishing vessel just off Mousehole. After conducting a risk assessment, Andrew made the call to tow the powerless vessel to the nearest safe harbour—Newlyn.
Safe Arrival and Prepared for the Next Task
With the fishing vessel securely moored, the lifeboat crew returned to Penlee Lifeboat Station. Once back, they refuelled the lifeboat and completed a thorough washdown, ensuring they were ready for the next call-out.
No further details about the vessel or its lone occupant were provided, but the swift and measured response highlights the continued dedication of Penlee’s volunteer team.
