Penzance to Hold Remembrance and Armistice Day Services This November
Penzance is set to honour those who sacrificed their lives in service with a series of remembrance events organised by the Penzance Council. Residents and visitors are invited to attend these poignant gatherings, which will pay tribute to the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Remembrance Sunday – 10th November
A key event for Penzance, the Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service, will be held on 10th November. The service will take place at the War Memorial at Battery Rocks and will be led by Rev Howard Peskett. Attendees will once again hear elements of the Cornish language during the ceremony, reflecting the community’s heritage.
Timings for Remembrance Sunday:
- 10:15am – The Civic Parade will form up in the forecourt of St John’s Hall.
- 10:35am – The Parade will march to the War Memorial at Battery Rocks.
- 10:50am – Remembrance Service and wreath laying.
The public is encouraged to watch the parade and participate in the service. Following the conclusion of the service, the Penzance Royal British Legion will host refreshments and a buffet at their clubhouse on Bread Street, open to all.
Road Closure Details
A rolling road closure will be in effect from 10:30am to 11am on 10 November, impacting the following roads:
- Alverton Street
- The Greenmarket
- Market Place
- Chapel Street
- Under Chapel Yard
- Battery Road (from the junction of Under Chapel Yard to the War Memorial)

Armistice Day – 11th November
The following day, on Monday 11th November, Penzance will observe Armistice Day with a brief service led by Rev Howard Peskett and Pastor Charles Fleming, Chaplain to the Mayor of Penzance. The service will be held at the Memorial Gardens in Penlee Park, commencing at 10:45am, followed by a two-minute silence at 11am.
The public is welcome to gather at the gardens from 10:45am to join in this solemn moment of remembrance.
These events provide an opportunity for the Penzance community to come together and reflect on the sacrifices made by countless individuals throughout history.
