Penzance & Newlyn RFC Asks for Cup Donations to Support Refill Campaign
In an effort to reduce single-use plastics, Plastic Free Penzance has teamed up with Penzance & Newlyn Rugby Football Club (RFC) to launch a cup donation drive. The goal is to help the club transition to reusable cups on match days, and they’re turning to the community for help.
Festival Cup Amnesty
The club, located off Alexandra Road, is asking locals to donate any reusable festival pint cups they may have sitting unused at home. According to the Facebook post by Plastic Free Penzance, hundreds of these cups could be hiding in cupboards across the town. By collecting these, the club aims to eliminate disposable cups during matches and events.
Penzance & Newlyn RFC puts all its resources into maintaining community sports and the upkeep of its grounds and buildings. With the help of Plastic Free Penzance, they’ve found a creative solution to get the reusable cups they need. The donation drive allows the club to avoid purchasing new reusable cups, while contributing to a more sustainable future.
How to Donate
If you have any festival pint cups to spare, you can drop them off at the collection point by the club entrance. Donations will be accepted Wednesday through Saturday from 5pm to 8pm.
This partnership between the club and Plastic Free Penzance is part of the wider #RefillPZ effort, encouraging the community to choose reusable over single-use items. For more details on the campaign, visit Plastic Free Penzance’s Facebook page.
