Penzance Firefighters Gift High-Tech Camera to Rescue Hedgehogs – Here’s Why It Matters
A VIP visitor made a special stop at Penzance Community Fire Station today—though this one had a little more fur than usual. A soon-to-be-released hedgehog, Benjamin, was introduced to the crew as part of a donation to a local wildlife charity, Hedgepig and Hoglet Rescue.
Helping Hedgehogs in Need
Firefighter Kim Clarke was pictured handing over one of the fire service’s old thermal imaging cameras to the charity, which cares for sick and injured hedgehogs. The camera will help them locate distressed animals that are reported to them, making their vital work even more effective.
With UK hedgehog numbers estimated to have declined by around 50% since 2000, organisations like Hedgepig and Hoglet Rescue play a crucial role in protecting these much-loved creatures.
How You Can Help
Anyone who spots a sick or injured hedgehog is encouraged to get in touch with the charity. More information about their work, as well as ways to support them, can be found via their Facebook page or website.
