Penzance Councillors Get First Look at West Cornwall Hospital’s £9 Million Outpatient Department
Councillors Bonnie Jackson, Jim McKenna, Penny Young, and Town Clerk James Hardy from Penzance Council were given a first look inside the new Outpatient Department at West Cornwall Hospital in Penzance. The £9 million project, a key development for local healthcare, has reached a significant milestone and is set to open to patients in May 2025.
A Personal Moment for Bonnie Jackson
For Bonnie Jackson, the visit carried personal significance, as she previously worked at West Cornwall Hospital as a Senior Nurse. Reflecting on the tour, Bonnie shared:
“I used to be a Senior Nurse here at West Cornwall Hospital, and prior to that, I was Sister on one of the wards. I’ve looked around the building today – it’s very hard to imagine a building when it’s just a building site, but it is, and will be, I think, a very positive move for Penzance. When I worked here there was always discussion about moving so many of our facilities to St Michael’s Hospital in Hayle, and to me, that would have been awful. So, this is important, and I look forward to seeing the finished product!”
Progress Towards May 2025 Opening
The Outpatient Department is undergoing rapid transformation as it heads towards its expected opening date in May 2025. The tour offered councillors and the Town Clerk an opportunity to witness first-hand the advancements being made on-site.
This milestone reinforces the commitment to providing improved healthcare services in Penzance, ensuring essential treatments remain accessible to the local community.
