In an impressive streak, Penlee Park has once again clinched a five-star rating in the Pride in Parks Award, a highlight of the South West in Bloom competition, itself a segment of the esteemed RHS Britain in Bloom initiative.

This marks the fourth consecutive year Penlee Park, under the stewardship of Penzance Council, has achieved this honour, reflecting the continuous efforts and commitment of the local Leisure & Amenities Team.

A Community Effort

The award recognises the park’s excellent standards in several critical areas including community involvement, garden maintenance, and the upkeep of facilities such as park benches while ensuring minimal litter. Amy Simons, Operations Manager for Penzance Council, expressed her delight over the park’s consistent performance: “We were very pleased to receive a 5-star rating from the Pride in Parks Awards for the fourth year in a row. This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our small Leisure & Amenities Team who not only look after Penlee Park, but many other areas within the Parish of Penzance.”

Year-Round Dedication

The Penzance Council Leisure & Amenities Team works tirelessly throughout the year to maintain and enhance the beauty and functionality of Penlee Park, making it a preferred destination for both residents and visitors of the Penzance Parish. Their responsibilities extend beyond the park to include Alexandra Play Park & Tennis Courts, Penlee Open Air Theatre, Penzance Jewish Cemetery, Heamoor Old School Field, Foxes Lane Play Park in Mousehole, Wherrytown Skateboard Plaza, seven public toilets, and street weeding covering approximately 120km of pavements spanning from Mousehole to Gulval.

Looking to the Future

The team is not resting on its laurels; plans are underway to create rewilding areas within the park to support pollinator populations. Furthermore, they are setting their sights on achieving the coveted Green Flag Award for Penlee Park in the upcoming year.

This year’s accolade not only highlights the park’s beautiful landscape and facilities but also underscores the community’s active participation and the local government’s commitment to maintaining high standards. Penlee Park’s continued recognition in the Pride in Parks Award promises to enhance its reputation as a top-tier community asset.
