Penlee Lifeboat Assists Four Young People off Penzance
Penlee Lifeboat crew launch to assist four young people struggling against offshore winds
Penlee’s All Weather Lifeboat ‘Ivan Ellen’ was launched at 5:10pm yesterday evening, Sunday 15th June, after reports came in of four people thought to be in difficulty on a paddle board to the south east of Penzance Harbour.
The lifeboat, under the command of full-time Coxswain Patch Harvey and with volunteer crew on board, located two young people in the sea near the Gear Pole.
Offshore winds prompted decision to bring them aboard
Although the pair were not in immediate danger, the crew decided to bring them aboard the lifeboat, judging that swimming back to shore would have been a struggle against the strong offshore wind.
Two other youngsters who were on a paddle board were also taken aboard.
The four were taken safely back to Penzance Harbour and given some sea safety advice before being dropped off at the Albert Pier.
Penlee ALB then returned to Newlyn to make ready for its next service.
