Opening Event and Muddy Clay Workshop
The exhibition kicks off with an opening event on Tuesday, June 11th, from 6 pm to 9 pm. Naomi Hart will host an immersive Muddy Clay Workshop, offering attendees a hands-on experience to unleash their creativity. This workshop is designed for both young and old, allowing participants to sculpt their own muddy clay creatures inspired by the wonders of the seabed. It’s a unique opportunity to engage with art and science in a fun and interactive way.

The Story Behind SeaBed
“SeaBed” is a collaborative piece created entirely from salvaged and donated fabric. It depicts the ragworm, Hediste diversicolor, a common UK benthic worm species that plays a crucial role in marine ecology. The border illustrations feature other benthic invertebrates studied by scientists from the University of Exeter as part of the Convex Seascape Survey, a pioneering research project focused on the ocean’s carbon storage capabilities.
The embroidered pieces were crafted in Exeter by refugees and asylum-seekers, highlighting the human impact of climate change. This collaborative effort involved people of all ages and backgrounds, coming together to recreate an underwater community through sustainable methods and materials.
