Incident at Longcarrow Cove

At 9:09 am on Sunday, 27th October, HM Coastguard Padstow, in coordination with Polzeath Coastguard Rescue Team, responded to an incident at Longcarrow Cove near Trevone. A dog had tragically fallen over the cliff while out on a familiar walk with its owner.

Cliff Rescue Operation

Two cliff technicians were deployed after the teams set up a cliff rigging system. Despite the prompt response, they were only able to recover the dog, who was found deceased. According to the Coastguard, the dog’s owner, who has walked this route for years, had experienced a sudden and heartbreaking turn on this familiar path.

Safety Reminder for Coastal Walks

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of keeping dogs on a lead near cliff paths. The Coastguard issued a caution: “No matter how many times you have done a particular walk or how good your beloved dog’s recall is, it just takes that one time.”

The Coastguard also extended its condolences to the family, reminding all who frequent coastal paths to stay vigilant. In emergencies, the public is advised to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
