Padstow RNLI Volunteers Brave High Seas to Tow Yacht to Safety
Volunteer crew members from Padstow RNLI launched into action late on Sunday evening, towing a stricken yacht to safety in challenging conditions.
Lifeboat Launch in Rough Seas
The Padstow RNLI volunteer crew responded to their pagers at 8.58pm on Sunday, 1st December, following reports of a yacht in difficulty 22 miles northwest of Trevose. The lifeboat launched into a force 6 west north-west wind, facing 2 to 3 metre swells as they made their way to the yacht’s location.
Assessment and Towing to Safety
On arrival at the scene, Coxswain Richard Pitman evaluated the situation and determined the safest course of action was to tow the vessel to the nearest harbour. The yacht was secured and towed safely into Padstow Harbour by 4am on Monday, 2nd December.
Lifeboat Ready for Service Again
After completing the rescue, the crew returned to the lifeboat station, where they refuelled and prepared the lifeboat for its next mission. The vessel was ready for service once again by 5.58am.
The Padstow RNLI continues to respond to emergencies like this, ensuring the safety of those in peril at sea.
