Fouled Propeller Strands Fishing Boat at Sea – Padstow RNLI Rushes To The Rescue
Padstow RNLI Crew Called Out at 3.29am for Critical Tow
Padstow RNLI’s volunteer lifeboat crew launched in the early hours to assist a fishing vessel that had run into trouble 15 miles southwest of Trevose.
Fishing Vessel Left Stranded After Propeller Fouled
The fishing boat found itself in difficulty when its propeller became fouled, leaving it unable to manoeuvre. A nearby vessel was able to reach the scene and take the stricken boat under tow, bringing it as far as the mouth of the Camel Estuary. However, due to tidal restrictions, the towing vessel was too large to take the fishing boat any further.
At 3.29am, the Padstow lifeboat crew launched to assess the situation. Given the extent of the fishing vessel’s issue, it was determined that the safest course of action was for the lifeboat to take over the tow and bring the vessel to the nearest safe harbour.
Safe Return to Padstow
The fishing vessel was successfully towed to Padstow Harbour, ensuring the safety of the crew on board. Following the completion of the mission, the Padstow RNLI lifeboat returned to station, where it was refuelled and ready for service by 6.10am.
Padstow RNLI’s efforts highlight the vital role lifeboat volunteers play in keeping those at sea safe, responding at a moment’s notice – whatever the hour.
