Fishing Vessel Partly Submerged at The Rumps – Padstow RNLI Rescues Crew
Padstow RNLI launched to emergency call-out
Padstow RNLI volunteers rushed to the aid of a fishing vessel that had run aground at The Rumps on Sunday, 2nd March. The lifeboat crew launched at 3.38 pm following reports that the vessel was in trouble. Upon arrival, they found the boat already partly submerged.
Crew Stranded on Rocks
The vessel’s two crew members had managed to reach nearby rocks before the lifeboat arrived. To bring them to safety, Padstow RNLI deployed their Y boat, transferring both individuals onto the all-weather lifeboat for medical checks. Polzeath Coastguard was also on the scene, providing assistance.
Relief and Teamwork
Padstow RNLI Coxswain Richard Pitman said, “We arrived on scene and were shocked to see the condition of the fishing vessel, but relieved to see the crew had managed to get themselves ashore on to the rocks and they were uninjured. It was a team effort and great to have Polzeath Coastguard crew on scene supporting.”
The rescued crew were taken to Padstow Harbour, where they were met by family. The lifeboat crew then returned to the station, refuelling and preparing for the next call-out by 5.50 pm.
