Emergency Rescue at Mother Ivey’s Bay: Young Person Airlifted to Hospital After Suspected Spinal Injury
A young person was airlifted to Royal Cornwall Hospital Treliske on Tuesday after suffering a suspected spinal injury at Mother Ivey’s Bay.
Coastguard Called Out
Padstow Coastguard team was called out at 16:23 on 20th August to assist the casualty on the beach. Due to an incoming tide, the team carefully transferred the young person onto a stretcher and moved them to the top of the beach path.
Medical Assistance on Scene
A SWAST Community First Responder arrived shortly after the coastguard team, followed by an ambulance from the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust. The casualty was then taken to Royal Cornwall Hospital Treliske in Truro for further medical assessment and care.
Safety Reminders
This incident highlights the importance of safety at the beach, particularly when engaging in water-related activities. The quick response from the Padstow Coastguard and the South Western Ambulance Service ensured the young person received prompt medical attention.
