Casualty Evacuated by Ferry After Injury at St George’s Cove
Casualty suffered suspected dislocated knee at St George’s Cove
Emergency teams were called to St George’s Cove in Padstow yesterday, 9th July, after a beachgoer suffered a suspected dislocated knee and required urgent medical attention.
Coastguard and Ambulance Respond
HM Coastguard Padstow were tasked to assist the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust at Georges Well Beach, a short distance from the main Padstow harbour. The casualty was already on the beach when the coastguard team arrived shortly before the ambulance.
Following their casualty care first aid protocols, team members began administering care until paramedics arrived.

Carried Off the Beach by Sea
After the casualty was assessed and made comfortable on a stretcher, it was decided that a water evacuation would be the safest option.
Padstow Harbour staff provided crucial support by helping with the transfer via the local passenger ferry. The stretchered casualty was carried ashore and handed over to the waiting ambulance crew for further treatment.
The casualty was then taken to Royal Cornwall Hospital Treliske for further investigation.
Team Stood Down After Rescue
Once the transfer was complete and the ambulance departed, HM Coastguard Padstow confirmed that their team was stood down and returned to base.
A spokesperson from the team added a thank you to Padstow Harbour for their help with the successful transfer.
