Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust has been honoured with the Silver Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) award by the Ministry of Defence. This accolade underscores the Trust’s dedicated support to the armed forces community.

Commitment to the Armed Forces

The Defence ERS offers awards at three levels: Bronze, Silver, and Gold, recognising employers who provide exceptional support to the armed forces community. Employers must also sign the Armed Forces Covenant to be eligible for these awards. Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust signed this Covenant in December 2021, achieving the Bronze award in 2022.

Leadership and Changes

Adrian Flynn, Chief Medical Officer and the Trust’s armed forces network executive sponsor, expressed pride in the achievement. Adrian stated, “The achievement of the Silver award is a positive step forward for the Trust. We are working hard to always offer prompt access to the right treatment and support to people from the armed forces.”

Adrian highlighted the significant changes implemented by the Trust, such as offering assessment days and guaranteeing interviews for armed forces candidates who meet a role’s core criteria. Improved connections with reserve and cadet units, along with paid leave for training, have also been introduced. These measures aim to retain colleagues with armed forces ties and leverage their valuable experience and expertise.

Expanding Support

The Trust employs nearly 70 individuals connected to the armed forces, including veterans, reservists, volunteers, and family members. The Silver award is part of the Trust’s broader efforts to support this unique community.

Both Camborne Redruth and Helston community hospitals proudly display Veteran Aware plaques, signifying their exceptional support for the armed forces community. Falmouth and Newquay community hospitals are currently working towards the same accreditation. The Trust plans to extend these achievements across all its community hospitals.

Future Aspirations

Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is now setting its sights on achieving the Gold ERS award, further cementing its commitment to the armed forces community. The ongoing efforts demonstrate the Trust’s dedication to providing comprehensive support and making a positive impact on the lives of those with armed forces connections.
