Double Award Nomination for Royal Cornwall Hospital Admiral Nurse Team
Royal Cornwall Hospital’s Dementia Care Team Honoured with Prestigious Nominations
In an impressive achievement, Caroline Ellis and her Admiral Nurse team from the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT) have been nominated for two awards at the inaugural Dementia Care Awards. These awards are designed to recognise outstanding practice in dementia services.
Caroline Ellis: A Dual Finalist
Caroline Ellis, the Strategic Lead Admiral Nurse, has been named a finalist in both the Dementia Nurse and Dementia Outreach categories. Caroline and her team, who collaborate with Dementia UK and Cornwall Foundation NHS Trust, provide vital support to carers and families of individuals with dementia during their time at RCHT.
Supporting Ahead Programme (SAP)
One of the key initiatives led by Caroline is the Supporting Ahead Programme (SAP). This programme is designed to help families and carers connect with dementia services and organisations, offering support throughout the dementia journey.
Quarterly events are a significant part of SAP, where carers can learn from professionals, access immediate support, and share their experiences. These gatherings not only provide practical assistance but also foster a sense of community, reducing social isolation among carers.
Recognition for SAP and Caroline
SAP has been shortlisted in the Dementia Outreach category, highlighting its impact and effectiveness. Additionally, Caroline’s individual contributions have earned her a place in the Dementia Nurse category.
Caroline expressed her joy at the nominations, stating, “I am absolutely delighted to be a finalist in two categories for the Dementia Care Awards. I’m so proud of the work I have achieved alongside our amazing team. We all have the same passion and determination to provide the best possible support for carers who are looking after their loved ones who live with dementia.”
Acknowledgements and Future Aspirations
Caroline also extended her gratitude to all the services and organisations involved in SAP, emphasising their shared commitment to maintaining and enhancing the programme. “We will be flying the flag for Cornwall and our ‘team dementia’ at the awards ceremony and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all services and organisations who are involved in SAP and share our passion and commitment to keep this model alive and thriving to help families and carers,” she added.
Celebrating Excellence in Dementia Care
The Dementia Care Awards aim to honour exceptional practices in dementia care, focusing on outcome-focused and person-centred approaches. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on Thursday, 13 June.
This recognition serves as a testament to the dedication and hard work of Caroline Ellis and her team, showcasing their unwavering commitment to supporting families and carers of those living with dementia.
