Trenance Play Park In Newquay Revamp: First Designs Unveiled – Vote Now

Published On: 17 September 2024Last Updated: 17 September 2024By

The first images revealing the vision for the much-anticipated revamp of Trenance Play Park have been released, showcasing the plans for a brand-new £152,000 facility. The revamped park, located in Trenance, Newquay, will replace the current well-used play area and promises to offer something for everyone.

Three Designs To Choose From

Three suppliers have been shortlisted to bring this new facility to life, each offering a unique take on the future of Trenance Play Park. The designs, which include a range of equipment for all ages, can now be viewed by the public, who are invited to help shape the park’s future by voting for their favourite.

The proposed designs include:

  • A pirate ship-themed area, with accessible picnic spots, junior and toddler play zones, and a relocated hill slide.
  • A four-metre-high space net and a 25-metre-long cableway with a take-off platform.
  • A junior area featuring a Net Tower with a Bannister Slide, alongside a zip wire.

Cornwall Council Consultation Now Open

The project is funded by the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), a fund generated from levies on property developers across Cornwall. Cornwall Council has now launched a public consultation to gather feedback on the proposed designs.

Residents can participate by completing a survey on the Let’s Talk Cornwall website, where they can rank the designs in order of preference. The consultation will remain open until Sunday, 13th October.

For those who prefer to give feedback in person, the plans will also be displayed at Newquay Library starting Monday, 23rd September.

Timeline For The Project

Cornwall Councillor Louis Gardner, who is also the Cabinet member for the Economy, expressed optimism that construction could begin shortly after the October half-term. The new play park is expected to be ready for the public by spring 2025.

With the designs now available, Louis encouraged residents to vote online for their preferred option, saying, “Designs now revealed for our new play park, a project I have been working on for the past 28 months. Please vote for your favourite online.”

This exciting project marks a significant investment in the Trenance area, with the funding secured through the efforts of local leaders and the support of the community.

To have your say, visit the Let’s Talk Cornwall website or head to Newquay Library later this month.
