Trenance Heritage Cottages Set To Illuminate Newquay with £15,000 Grant from Experience Newquay
New Light Displays to Brighten Halloween, Christmas, and St. Piran’s Week
Trenance Heritage Cottages, in collaboration with The Garden Café, is set to light up Newquay’s winter season with a series of captivating new experiences, thanks to a generous £15,000 infrastructure grant from Experience Newquay. The initiative, titled ‘Trees and Tales,’ will feature enchanting light displays and events tailored for Halloween, Christmas, and St. Piran’s Week, promising to transform the cottages into a magical wonderland for both locals and visitors.
A Collaborative Effort to Enhance Trenance Valley
The plan, which was submitted jointly by the trustees of Trenance Heritage Cottages and the café owners at The Garden Café, involves illuminating the trees surrounding the historic cottages. The project follows the success of last year’s additional Christmas lights, which received overwhelming positive feedback from the public. The new lighting installations will include uplit trees and seasonal projections onto the cottages, creating a stunning walkthrough experience.
Jill Willmott, Chair of the Board of Trustees, expressed her excitement about the project, stating, “We were so delighted to have the chance to bring more to the Newquay community by utilising our fabulous park location. The Cottages celebrate their ten-year anniversary next year since our renovation and reopening, and this is a fantastic way to bring a new wave of people down to see us.”
Seasonal Events to Draw Crowds
The first of these experiences will launch on 27th October, just in time for Halloween. The grand Christmas switch-on event, featuring the main Christmas tree and full light displays, will take place on Saturday, 23rd November. These Christmas lights will be on display every night until Christmas, with further details on additional activities to be announced post-summer.
Local Newquay electricians and lighting designers have been tasked with designing and installing the infrastructure over the summer, ensuring everything is ready for autumn.
Supporting Year-Round Tourism
Experience Newquay, the organisation behind the grant, aims to promote sustainable year-round tourism and strengthen connections between local Cornish communities and visitors. The project, funded by the UK Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund, supports Newquay’s creative, leisure, and heritage sectors.
The Experience Newquay project, which runs until March 2025, focuses on fostering a resilient year-round visitor economy. By spotlighting the low season and embracing Newquay’s unique identity, the project supports local enterprises through the regeneration of town centres and neighbourhood shopping areas.
A Community-Wide Celebration
Jill further highlighted the broader impact of the grant, saying, “The funding will benefit our charity, the town, and the whole of Trenance Valley, and we would like to thank everyone involved in making this happen.”
