Six-Year-Old Lily Bell Donates Birthday Money to Newquay RNLI
Heartwarming Gesture Delights Lifeboat Volunteers
A six-year-old girl from Newquay, Lily Bell, recently decided to donate her birthday money to Newquay RNLI after learning about the lifeboat station’s work at school. Following a birthday celebration where Lily organised a ‘sausage sizzler’ fundraiser, she raised over £170 to support the RNLI’s lifesaving efforts.
A Special Visit to the Lifeboat Station
During her visit to the Newquay RNLI lifeboat station, Lily met with volunteers who were delighted by her generous gesture. Lifeboat Helm Tim Poole gave Lily and her family a tour of the station and lifeboat, explaining the crew’s duties and even asking Lily if she might like to join the lifeboat team when she grows up.
“It takes a special kind of child, especially one so young, to appreciate what we do and to want to donate all of their birthday money to charity,” Tim said.
Inspired by Her School and Community
Lily’s mum, Becky, highlighted the role of Trenance Learning Academy in fostering a community connection for her daughter. Since Lily started at the school in 2022, she has participated in unique weekly community sessions that introduce children to various parts of Newquay, including its history and the coastline.
“It’s such a unique aspect of her schooling,” Becky said. “We feel really privileged that she gets to take part in something that connects her to her community and her ocean surroundings.”
Newquay RNLI volunteers expressed their gratitude for Lily’s thoughtful donation and encouraged other young supporters inspired by her example.
