A Year of Fundraising for Lifeboat Volunteers

Newquay RNLI has received an impressive £9,000 donation from the Newquay Thursday Club, a social group for ladies affiliated with Newquay Methodist Church. Meeting fortnightly for informal talks, visits, and activities, the group chose to dedicate their 2024 fundraising efforts to Newquay Lifeboat Station during the RNLI’s bicentenary year.

The club’s President, Maggie Biddle, revealed the remarkable total at the Carols by Candlelight service just before Christmas, attended by the Newquay Singers, The Celtic Fiddlers, and the 3rd Newquay Brownies. Maggie said: “The final total of £9,000 was revealed to the Newquay RNLI fundraisers at the Carols by Candlelight service before Christmas. It was a very special evening in the company of the Newquay Singers, The Celtic Fiddlers and the 3rd Newquay Brownies who have all played their part in helping us to achieve this record-breaking amount.

“This splendid sum was thanks to a whole team effort by all the ladies of the Thursday Club who have contributed in time and effort throughout the year whilst having a lot of fun on the way! The club are proud to support their local community and they know that Newquay RNLI volunteers will find good use for the funds to help them in their valiant voluntary service.”

Creative Fundraising Activities

The Thursday Club’s fundraising involved a range of creative activities, including coffee mornings, a fashion show, garden parties, and even a Shanty Cruise. Local businesses provided support by offering outlets for the club’s craft items, donating accommodation vouchers, and contributing through other means.

A painting by a renowned local artist added valuable funds to the total, while the Headland Hotel gave a generous donation in return for the club’s help with decorating the hotel for Christmas.

Gratitude from the Lifeboat Station

Newquay Lifeboat Station expressed their gratitude to the Thursday Club, as well as the businesses and groups who contributed to the fundraising effort. The funds will be put to good use in supporting the essential voluntary service provided by the RNLI.

The Newquay Thursday Club’s incredible dedication and teamwork have highlighted the power of community spirit, setting a shining example of how local efforts can make a meaningful impact.
