Newquay’s Trenance Valley Spruced Up but Quickly Vandalised: Who’s Behind the Tagging?
Volunteers in Newquay, including Cornwall Councillors Louis Gardner and Olly Monk, recently gathered to clean up the bouldering area in the Trenance Valley. With support from Newquay in Bloom, the team made significant progress in refreshing the area and painting over graffiti.
Community Effort to Clean Trenance Valley
The volunteers worked together to paint over graffiti at the bouldering area opposite the zoo, brightening up the space. Louis Gardner expressed his gratitude to those who participated, especially Newquay in Bloom, for their hard work. “We made so much progress today but will be back in a couple of weeks to do some more,” Louis said.
Disheartening Vandalism
Sadly, just hours after the team’s efforts, the freshly painted walls were defaced by a tagger who goes by the name “Guest.” Louis Gardner shared his disappointment, mentioning how his nine-year-old daughter had helped with the painting: “She was incredibly proud when she finished.” However, the walls were tagged overnight, leaving his daughter upset. “All you have done is broken the heart of a 9-year-old little girl,” Louis added in frustration.
This tagger, who has marked several spots around Newquay, has sparked frustration among locals as the town continues to grapple with such acts of vandalism.
Moving Forward
Despite the setback, Louis Gardner and Olly Monk plan to return with the volunteer team to continue their efforts in keeping the area clean. The community remains hopeful that this issue will be resolved.
