Newquay Set to Get Spooky: Are You Ready for the Ultimate Zombie Crawl?

Published On: 14 October 2024Last Updated: 14 October 2024By

The much-anticipated Spooky Newquay festivities are just weeks away, and the town is gearing up for a day of frightful fun for all the family. On Saturday, 26th October, the annual Newquay Zombie Crawl will return, drawing in thousands of spooky creatures, but before the main event, participants can enjoy a variety of free workshops to get into character.

Free Workshops for All Ages

From 11:30 am to 2:30 pm, families and thrill-seekers can attend several interactive workshops to perfect their zombie walk, gruesome makeup, and monster moves. Businesses across Newquay will host free sessions for all ages, including:

  • Wounds Workshop at The Concho Lounge
  • Pumpkin Carving at Project 93
  • Facepainting at the Lighthouse Cinema, Fins Surf School, Newquay Beach Hotel, and On The Lash
  • Circus Skills at the Piazza, opposite the Lighthouse Cinema

Participants will also find workshops at The Boathouse, where they can create zombie clothes and banners. Look out for spooky statues and stilt walkers bringing eerie vibes to the high street.

Spooky Story Times and Devilish Dance

If storytelling is your thing, Newquay Library will be hosting ‘Spooky Witches’ story times at 12pm and 2pm, and Clemo Books will join in with a session at 1pm. For those looking to learn some spooky moves, devilish dance workshops will pop up around the town from 12pm to 2pm, courtesy of Bounce Dance Academy and 4Motion. Cornwall Theatre School will also showcase intriguing installations across the town.

Get Your Ghostly Ride and Photobooth Fun

Throughout the day, the Ghost Train will be making its rounds through Newquay, offering a spooky ride for those brave enough to hop on. Over on East Street, RideOn E-Bikes will feature apple bobbing and a Spooky Photobooth from 12pm to 5pm (charges may apply).

The Main Event: Newquay Zombie Crawl

At 3pm, the highlight of the day will commence. Thousands of zombies—including lifeguards, pirates, and pop stars—will gather at Sydney Road, next to Sainsbury’s, before making their way down Newquay’s main street in an epic display of spooky fun, ending at Newquay Train Station. After the crawl, several venues will host Young Ghoul Discos, including The Griffin Inn and Steam Bar, which will feature DJ Beaker from 3pm to 6pm. Oceanside Hotel will hold a family UV Halloween party from 2pm to 4pm.

Spooky Fun Throughout Half-Term

The Halloween fun doesn’t stop there. Throughout the half-term week, visitors to Newquay can take part in the free Halloween Zombie Trail, organised by Visit Newquay. To participate, simply collect a clue sheet from the Tourist Information Centre and follow the creepy clues through the town, picking up letters as you go.

Newquay businesses are also joining in by decorating their storefronts and staff in the spookiest way possible. The best-dressed storefronts will win a prize, so expect plenty of spooky displays across the town.
