Newquay RNLI Lifeboats Seeks Volunteers at Fistral Beach Visitor Centre
Newquay RNLI Lifeboats announced a call for volunteers to join their team at the RNLI Visitors Centre, Fistral Beach, through a recent Facebook post. The centre, one of only three such facilities in the country, is dedicated to providing an educational and engaging experience for families, aiming to impart crucial beach and water safety information.
A drop-in session is scheduled for Saturday, 27 January, from 10 am to 1 pm, inviting interested individuals to learn more about volunteer opportunities. The visitor centre, located at TR7 1HY, is a hub for educating the public about the vital work of the RNLI, beach safety, and the roles and responsibilities of lifeguards.
The centre is set to open daily from Good Friday, 29 March, operating between 1 pm and 4 pm. Volunteer responsibilities include promoting the RNLI’s work, delivering safety messages tailored to local beaches, providing additional information to enhance the centre’s exhibits, and explaining the critical functions undertaken by lifeguards.
Lewis Timson, Lead Lifeguard Supervisor for the South West, and Liz Strahand, Lifeboat Visits Officer, will be present at the event to answer questions and guide potential volunteers. John Warbutton, Lifeboat Visits Officer/Launch Authority from Newquay Lifeboat Station, will also be available to discuss the synergistic work of the RNLI Lifeguards and Lifeboats in providing lifesaving services.
The event promises to be interactive and family-friendly, with refreshments available and all interactive games at the centre operational for attendees to experience. Children are welcome to attend, with plenty of games and features for them to engage with while adults converse with the volunteers.
Those interested in volunteering are encouraged to attend the session for a comprehensive understanding of the role and to meet team members. For a full description of the volunteer position and to access the application form, the RNLI website can be visited here.
