Newquay RNLI Assist Speedboat with Engine Failure in Newquay Bay
Engine Failure in the Gazzle
Newquay RNLI volunteers were called into action on the evening of Friday 11th July after a speedboat ran into trouble in the Gazzle, a rocky area in Newquay Bay.
The call for help came at 7.10pm, with Falmouth Coastguard requesting support for a 17ft speedboat reportedly experiencing engine failure.
Crew Use Oars to Avoid Collision
Newquay’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat was launched and quickly located the stricken vessel. On arrival, lifeboat crew could see those onboard the speedboat desperately using oars to keep the boat from crashing into nearby rocks.
Vessel Towed to Safety
RNLI volunteers promptly rigged a tow line and pulled the vessel into a safer area, where they established an alongside tow. Once secure, the boat was safely towed into Newquay Harbour.
The Atlantic lifeboat was made ready for service again, and the crew left the station at 8.07pm.
