Newquay Lifeguards Set to Attempt Daring 5,000m Swim Challenge In August
The Newquay RNLI Lifeguard Team is preparing for an ambitious challenge to celebrate the RNLI’s 200th anniversary while raising vital funds for the charity’s future.
On the 2nd of August, the team will attempt to swim a staggering 5,000 metres in under one hour at Newquay swimming pool.
The Challenge
As part of their fitness test, RNLI lifeguards are required to perform a 25-metre underwater swim followed by an immediate return using the freestyle stroke. This 50-metre swim must be completed in under 50 seconds. To mark the RNLI’s bicentennial, the Newquay team will aim to complete this rigorous task 200 times within the hour.
Event Details
The event will take place at Newquay swimming pool, and the team hopes to live stream their effort on their Facebook social media. Supporters can follow the event live by keeping an eye on the RNLI Lifeguards Newquay Facebook page for updates.
