Newquay Businesses Get a £9,500 Boost: What This Means for the Town
Shopfront Improvements Across Newquay
Newquay Business Improvement District (BID) has successfully secured £9,500 in funding from Cornwall Council’s Town Delivery Fund. This financial support will benefit 13 businesses, enabling them to rejuvenate their shopfronts with improvements ranging from repainting to replacing canopies. The initiative also includes the creation of a storytelling trail designed to draw footfall to the Trenance area of Newquay.
Abigail from Newquay BID expressed her enthusiasm: “It’s been an absolute pleasure to directly support individual businesses by accessing Cornwall Council’s Town Delivery Fund. 13 businesses will receive match funding to spruce their premises in time for next summer, and as the businesses in Trenance are a real gem outside of the town centre, it is great to shine a light on them by installing a trail.”
How the Funding Came Together
The project was sparked when a local business approached Newquay BID for help with refreshing its shopfront. This led the BID team to explore funding options and apply for Cornwall Council support. Their efforts culminated in a successful grant application, ensuring businesses in Newquay receive the resources they need to keep their premises looking clean and inviting.
Positive Impacts for Local Businesses
Rob from Newquay Activity Centre is excited about the impact this funding will have: “We’re all on a mission to make the absolute most of Newquay high street and this funding will make a difference to all of the local businesses. We can’t wait to spruce up Newquay Activity Centre and prepare for a successful 2025.”
Claire of Atlantic View Café echoed similar sentiments: “We at Atlantic View Café would like to say a big thanks to Cornwall Council for our shop front improvement grant. We believe it’s so important to keep Newquay’s high street and our business looking clean, modern and eye-catching. We would like to say a big thanks to Newquay BID for their excellent work and constant business support.”
Newquay BID’s Role in Supporting the Community
Newquay BID continues to work on projects that benefit the town. Past successes include initiatives such as the monthly BIG Newquay Market, the mural trail MUQY, and the Newquay Rangers. The team consistently seeks out funding opportunities to provide excellent value for businesses that pay into the BID levy.
Cornwall Councillor Louis Gardner highlighted the importance of this funding, saying: “By enhancing storefronts, we create a vibrant, welcoming town that attracts more visitors, supports jobs, and builds community pride. This scheme reflects a commitment to investing in Newquay’s future, fostering economic growth while preserving the unique charm of our high streets.”
Looking Ahead
With the improvements planned and a storytelling trail in the works, this funding is set to enhance both Newquay’s streetscape and its appeal to visitors and residents alike. From Trenance to Fore Street, the town is ready to shine.
