New Traffic Restrictions Proposed for Trencreek and Chapel Level Crossings in Newquay
No Waiting Zones and Prohibition of Vehicles on the Horizon
Cornwall Council, through its contractor Cormac, is inviting public comments on a new proposal to introduce traffic restrictions at the Trencreek and Chapel level crossings in Newquay. The plans aim to install “No waiting at any time” zones, including double yellow lines, to facilitate vehicle turning areas and eventually enforce a prohibition of motor vehicles across the level crossings.
Details of the Proposed Restrictions
At Trencreek, the proposal includes double yellow lines along Trencreek Road, Carpmael Avenue, and Crossing Mews. These restrictions will create space for vehicles, such as delivery and refuse lorries, to turn around without needing to cross the railway line. The turning area will be located along the entrance to Carpmael Avenue and Crossing Mews, helping vehicles exit Trencreek Road safely.
Meanwhile, at Chapel, parking restrictions are set to be introduced near the Farm/Field Entrance on the southern side of the level crossing. This turning area is designed to help vehicles turn around and exit Chapel Road without crossing the railway.
Context of the Plan
These changes are part of a broader scheme to close the Trencreek and Chapel railway crossings to allow for upgrades to the Newquay railway line. However, the prohibition of motor vehicles across these level crossings will only be enforced once the Newquay Strategic Route opens, which is currently scheduled for Spring 2025.
Have Your Say
The public is encouraged to provide feedback on these proposals. These restrictions aim to ensure smoother traffic flow and safer navigation for vehicles in the Trencreek and Chapel areas.
